Kubernetes / Ops specialist
We are looking for a Kubernetes / Ops specialist to join our team!
We want to point out that this is a remote position for candidates located in Spain, who want to be part of a team partly in the Netherlands, and partly in Spain (Barcelona). The working language is English in the team.
To make sure you feel part of the whole team we expect you to visit our office in Amstelveen (the Netherlands) between 4 and 6 times a year, with each visit lasting 3 to 5 days.
To connect with the part of the team that also operates from Spain, you will work from co-working spaces in Barcelona as well, the frequency is still to be determined.
Your role
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Good knowledge of Linux systems
- Experience with CI/CD systems like Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, CircleCI
- Full command of the English language; fluency in Dutch is nice to have
- Good communicator who is willing to collaborate with infra stakeholders
In addition, we would positively value the following:
- Experience with ArgoCD or another GitOps tool
- Experience with Python or JavaScript
- Experience with Helm
- Experience with Prometheus / Grafana, OpenTelemetry…
- Experience with Calico or another CNI
- Experience with tools like Skaffold or Kustomize
- Experience with database orchestration tools like CloudNativePG, Zalando PostgreSQL Operator, etc.
- Experience with message queues like RabbitMQ
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools like Trivy, Docker Scout, etc.
- Experience with secrets/vault management like HashiCorp Vault, 1Password Connect, etc.
- CKA / CKAD / CKS certifications
The following items would be bonus points:
- Knowledge of gRPC
- Experience with cert-manager
- Experience with CoreDNS
- Experience managing on-premise Kubernetes clusters
Your responsibilities would include:
- Maintain and improve the Kubernetes cluster
- Implement feedback from security audits
- Ensure the cluster follows the best practices regarding security
- Improve cluster monitoring and observability
- Maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines
- Collaborate with our hosting provider for
- maintenance and k8s upgrades
- discussing hardware expansions and requirements, if the cluster needs them
- Designing, implementing and carrying out disaster recovery scenarios

Our stack
- On-premise Kubernetes, hosted on a managed platform
- Bitbucket Pipelines and ArgoCD
- Manifests are generated by Skaffold / Kustomize. We use some Helm charts
- Python services w/ PostgreSQL databases
- Inter-service communication happens over gRPC or RabbitMQ
- Prometheus & Grafana for observability
- Ingress-nginx as Ingress; Calico as CNI; cert-manager
You further recognize yourself in the following criteria:
- You are eager to learn and have an affinity for chemicals;
- You are independent and responsible;
- You have a completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar, or have an equivalent thinking level paired with work experience;
- Your command of the English languages is excellent both verbally and in writing;
- You enjoy working at a 'scale-up' company;
- You are used to working with various external and internal stakeholders;
- You are up to date with the latest developments in your field.
